Russell Oxley
Russell has been a saxophonist with the Royal Australian Navy Band for almost 10 years. Like many, his music journey started at school with a clarinet and he was eventually able to move on to the instrument he always wanted to play – saxophone.
He has an Advanced Certificate of Music Performance (Jazz/Popular) from Box Hill TAFE and a Bachelor or Music (Improvisation) from the Victorian College of the Arts.

He has performed in a variety of big bands, latin bands and function bands around Melbourne and has also worked as a cruise ship musician overseas. He developed his skills on other woodwind instruments by playing in amateur theatre productions, which he then taught at numerous schools. He is also a former Musical Director of the Clasax Saxophone Ensemble.
His Navy service has seen him perform at many events overseas, including ANZAC Day services in France in 2022
